Ellen Takes Rosie Tribute to Ohio

January 8, 2012

Terra State Community College’s Jazz and American Music Studies programs presents, “The Girl Singer: A Tribute to Rosemary Clooney,” with renowned jazz singer, Ellen Winters.

Winters has been thrilled to present “The Girl Singer: A Tribute to Rosemary Clooney” to an overwhelming reception of audiences. After premiering the show this past November at Sunset Playhouse in Milwaukee with a sold-out run, Winters now brings this tribute of timeless music of America’s favorite “girl singer,” Rosemary Clooney.ellen27

Clooney has long been identified as an American icon from playing such roles as “Betty” in the movie White Christmas and a long list of recordings, radio shows, and TV variety programs in the 1950s and ‘60s, to her transformation into a jazz singer in the late ‘70s.  This original show written by Winters weaves in stories about Rosie’s roller coaster life and features the songs that made her famous. Audiences have loved the show and have said that Winters “channels” Rosie.

“Ellen Winters, arguably Milwaukee’s best jazz singer, recreated the Rosemary Clooney voice and era.“ — Mike Drew, music critic and former journalist with The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Winters will be joined in this tribute by longtime friends and colleagues, the Michael Shirtz Quartet, and special “Sisters” performance with Pamela Shirtz. Come and enjoy Winters’ tribute as Terra’s Recital Hall transforms into a night club for a 90-minute celebration of the life, the music, and the legend of Rosemary Clooney.

The Girl Singer: A Tribute to Rosemary Clooney will be presented on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14, both concerts at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall at Terra, Building D.  Admission for the concerts is $15 and includes free beverages and light snacks.  Reservations can be made through Terra’s Box Office at 419-559-2379.
