Hello. In my 20+ years of teaching at the high school and collegiate levels, I have met some amazing artists. Some are colleagues/classmates, some are mentors and most are friends. It continues to become apparent to me that society has a perception about singing that isn't realistic. It is my hope to help educate more people about the necessary skills and tools that students must have in order to effectively work towards a performance career in the Music industry. And when I use the term "student," I recognize that not everyone follows a traditional academic path towards a music career. While most of my experience is within academia, I also hope to include insights and resources for non-traditional learning.
Through posts, interviews and podcasts, I'll discuss pertinent issues facing the modern singer/performer as he/she maneuvers through the ever changing world of Music. We'll discuss all vocal musical genres: Jazz, Pop, Rock, R & B, Classical and Musical Theatre and more. Current working professionals on Broadway, working as Performing/Recording Artists, Television and Film Vocal work will offer their insights and advice based on their own personal experiences on the road, on stage and in the studios. Real life advice and information from people who are doing what you want to do is so important to the beginning artist. While there is no "one stop shop" nor do I claim to have all of the answers, I do feel that I have some good insights and know more people who have even better insights. I want to use this blog to shed light on some issues plaguing young, upcoming artists and also more established artists who may be trying to break into new genres of singing. I also hope to educate the general public on the process of healthy singing and perhaps even impact the music industry as a whole by encouraging dialogue and promoting change. Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for some new posts in the coming weeks.
